“Could have withdrawn before the draws” ”Saw Aryna Sabalenka and withdrew” – Fans disappointed by Ons Jabeur pulling out of US Open 2024

Ons Jabeur’s withdrawal after the 2024 US Open draw has disappointed fans, who speculate that the Tunisian may have made her decision based on the draw.

Jabeur was placed in a challenging quarter alongside second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka, last year’s runner-up, as well as Daria Kasatkina, Zheng Qinwen, and Madison Keys.

At 29 years old, Ons Jabeur has been grappling with inconsistent form for over a year, resulting in a drop from her previous World No. 2 ranking to 17th. Without any titles this year and holding a modest 16-14 win/loss record, Jabeur experienced early exits at both Wimbledon and the Australian Open, although she managed to reach the quarterfinals at the French Open.

Seeded 17th for the US Open, Jabeur has pulled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury. Elise Mertens will take her place in the main draw, now seeded 33rd.

Fans expressed disappointment over Ons Jabeur’s last-minute decision to withdraw, speculating that she made the choice after seeing her draw. One fan remarked that she could have withdrawn before the draw was announced, saying,

“Could have withdrawn before the draws were made.”

Another fan speculated that Jabeur withdrew after noticing that Aryna Sabalenka was in her quarter, saying,

“Saw Sabalenka in the draw and withdrew.”

Here are some other reactions from the fans.

“After the draw? Come on,” a fan said.

“hate to say this, but she should have withdrawn 5 or 6 hours earlier 16 players could have different seeded locations. there was zero chance that she was playing this week,” a fan opined.

“I knew she was going to withdraw but why didn’t she do this before the draw. This is so sad to watch,” a fan pondered.

“Lol, waited for the draw to see her chances, saw she got dropped in sabalenka’s quarter… decided f**k this shit & dipped,” a fan joked.
