Jannik Sinner, world No. 1, tested positive for a steroid twice but will not be suspended
Jannik Sinner, currently ranked as the world’s top tennis player, has tested positive for a banned steroid on two occasions. However, he will not face a suspension.
DO YOU KNOW WHY ?
Top-ranked tennis player Jannik Sinner tested positive twice for a banned anabolic steroid in March. He has been stripped of prize money and points from the Indian Wells tournament but will not face suspension, as an independent tribunal determined the violation was unintentional.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency announced the case on Tuesday. Despite this, Jannik Sinner, who won the Cincinnati Open on Monday, remains a strong contender for the U.S. Open starting in New York next week.
The ATP released a statement on social media, expressing satisfaction that Jannik Sinner was not found at fault or negligent. They also praised the thoroughness of the investigation and independent review under the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme (TADP), which has permitted him to keep competing.
The statement emphasized that this issue has been difficult for Jannik Sinner and his team, highlighting the importance for players and their support teams to be extremely careful with products and treatments. Maintaining integrity remains crucial in the sport.
The integrity agency stated that the 21-year-old Dorcil did not substantiate her claim that the boldenone in her system came from a contaminated vitamin B12 injection. CAS also found that she failed to demonstrate that her doping violation was unintentional, which might have led to a reduced two-year ban.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s decision to ban Dorcil until January 12, 2027, following her positive test for boldenone and its metabolites in November 2022 at an ITF World Tennis Tour event in Lima, Peru. Dorcil’s highest singles ranking was 1,255 in January 2023.
“If Novak Djokovic smashed a racket like that, he’d be crucified” – Fans slam ‘leniency’ for Carlos Alcaraz’s display of anger in Cincinnati Open loss
Fans Criticize Leniency Towards Carlos Alcaraz After Racket-Smashing Incident: A Double Standard in Tennis?
Carlos Alcaraz, the young tennis prodigy who has taken the tennis world by storm, recently found himself at the center of a heated debate following his outburst during the Cincinnati Open. During his match against Gaël Monfils, Alcaraz, visibly frustrated, smashed his racket on the court—a rare display of anger from the usually composed Spaniard. The incident has sparked a conversation among fans, many of whom are questioning the perceived leniency shown to Alcaraz, particularly when comparing his actions to those of tennis legend Novak Djokovic.
A Rare Outburst from the Rising Star
Carlos Alcaraz’s rise to the top of the tennis world has been nothing short of meteoric. Known for his exceptional skill and maturity beyond his years, the 21-year-old has quickly become a fan favorite. However, his recent behavior during the Cincinnati Open has raised eyebrows. After losing a critical point in a tense match against Monfils, Alcaraz smashed his racket in frustration. The act, while not uncommon in the high-pressure world of professional tennis, was out of character for Alcaraz, who has built a reputation for his calm and collected demeanor.

Fans Cry Foul Over “Double Standards”
In the aftermath of the incident, social media was abuzz with reactions from fans and commentators. Many were quick to point out what they perceive as a double standard in how such behavior is treated, particularly when comparing Alcaraz to Novak Djokovic. Djokovic, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, has faced significant backlash and harsh penalties for similar outbursts throughout his career.
One fan tweeted,
“If Novak Djokovic smashed a racket like that, he’d be crucified,” reflecting a sentiment shared by many that Alcaraz received more lenient treatment from both officials and the media.
Some fans showed understanding towards Alcaraz, acknowledging that even a four-time Grand Slam champion can have moments of frustration.
“It’s a part of life. You win some, you lose some. And sometimes we let anger get the best of us. No need for everyone to freak out,”
one fan remarked.
However, the majority criticized what they saw as “leniency” toward the 21-year-old, arguing that Novak Djokovic had faced harsher judgment for similar outbursts. They felt that the different reactions were unfair, suggesting a double standard in how players are treated when expressing their emotions on the court.
“Had Novak smashed the racket I’m sure the tweet wouldn’t be this lenient,” one fan posted.
“If Djokovic smashed a racket like that, he’d be publicly crucified,” a fan argued.
“When Alcaraz does, “he desperately wants to win the match” when Novak does, “he doesn’t have sportsmanship” 😭😭👍🏻,” another fan wrote.
“When Alcaraz smashes a racket: “he wants to win so badly!” When Djokovic smashes a racket: “disgusting violent thug, unsportsmanlike behaviour, ban him from the tour,”” said another.

Djokovic has indeed been at the receiving end of severe criticism for his on-court conduct, with some instances leading to fines and even disqualifications, such as his infamous incident at the 2020 US Open when he accidentally hit a line judge with a ball.
The Pressure of High Expectations
The criticism aimed at Alcaraz raises important questions about the pressures faced by young athletes and the expectations placed on them. As a rising star, Alcaraz is under constant scrutiny, and every move he makes on the court is analyzed by fans, commentators, and opponents alike. The racket-smashing incident, while not typical of his behavior, highlights the immense pressure he faces as he navigates the challenges of professional tennis.
Some supporters of Alcaraz argue that the reaction to his outburst should be seen in the context of his youth and relative inexperience at the highest level of the sport. They contend that all players, particularly those as young as Alcaraz, should be allowed to express frustration without facing excessive criticism. Others, however, believe that consistency in how players are treated, regardless of their status or age, is crucial for the integrity of the sport.
The Role of Media and Public Perception
The media’s role in shaping public perception cannot be overlooked in this debate. The coverage of Alcaraz’s outburst has been notably more forgiving than similar incidents involving Djokovic or even other players like Nick Kyrgios, who has also faced harsh scrutiny for his on-court antics. This discrepancy has led to accusations of bias and favoritism, with some fans suggesting that certain players are given a pass due to their popularity or marketability.
Moving Forward: A Learning Experience
For Carlos Alcaraz, the incident at the Cincinnati Open will likely serve as a learning experience. As he continues to mature both as a player and as a public figure, how he handles the pressures of the sport will be critical to his long-term success. The young star has the talent and potential to become one of the all-time greats, but with that potential comes the responsibility to manage emotions and maintain professionalism on the court.
As the debate continues, one thing is clear: tennis fans expect fairness and consistency in how players are treated, regardless of their status or popularity. Whether this incident will lead to a reevaluation of how such behavior is judged remains to be seen, but it has undoubtedly added another layer of complexity to the already intense world of professional tennis.
