Jannik Sinner addresses wrist injury concerns ahead of US Open 2024 final against Taylor Fritz after nasty fall during SF

Jannik Sinner’s potential withdrawal from the US Open finals due to a wrist injury is a growing concern for his supporters and tennis experts alike. The young Italian star, known for his powerful groundstrokes and relentless baseline play, has been battling wrist pain throughout the tournament. Despite showing resilience and maintaining a high level of performance, questions remain about the severity of the injury.

Should his condition deteriorate or if medical evaluations suggest that continuing could risk more severe damage, Sinner might have to contemplate withdrawing to safeguard his future in the sport. Until there is an official update from Sinner or his team, the uncertainty surrounding his participation will remain, leaving fans anxious about his prospects in the final match.

Jannik Sinner defeated Britain’s Jack Draper 7-5, 7-6(3), 6-2 in the semifinals of the 2024 US Open on Friday, September 6. With this victory, Sinner made history by becoming the first Italian man to reach the final of the US Open in New York.

Jannik Sinner is set to face 12th seed Taylor Fritz, who defeated fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals, in the battle for the prestigious US Open title. Sinner fired 11 aces and converted four break points to secure his victory over an ailing Jack Draper, who was making his first appearance in a Grand Slam semifinal.

The match wasn’t without its challenges for Sinner, who endured a rough fall during a tense rally in the ninth game of the second set.

Jannik Sinner requested a medical timeout to receive treatment on his left wrist, which is essential for executing his powerful backhand shots. Despite the injury scare, he managed to play the rest of the match without showing any apparent signs of pain.

Later on Friday, the World No. 1 discussed his injury ahead of his highly anticipated final against Taylor Fritz on Sunday, expressing appreciation for the physio’s efforts in helping him stay fit for the important clash.

“The physio loosened it up very fast on court so I felt okay in the beginning then after it went away with playing which is good,” Jannik Sinner during his post-match presser.

The World No. 1, however, noted that he would evaluate the condition of his wrist over the next 24 hours to determine its readiness for the final.

“Let’s see how it is tomorrow when it’s cold. It’s gonna be a different feeling, hopefully, it’s nothing to concern about,” he said.

The Italian seemed less worried as he continued:

“I’m quite relaxed because if it’s something bad you feel it straightaway a bit more so yeah let’s see how it is.”
