Iga Swiatek and Daniil Medvedev lead the charge for 2024 World Tennis League
Iga Swiatek, Daniil Medvedev, and Taylor Fritz are confirmed for the 2024 World Tennis League, showcasing a star-studded lineup for the exhibition tournament. Scheduled from December 19 to 22 at the Etihad Stadium, this event promises exciting matches featuring some of the top talents in tennis.
The 2024 World Tennis League will feature a round-robin format with four teams: Eagles, Falcons, Hawks, and Kites, each consisting of two male and two female players, totaling 16 participants. Among them are five men and five women from the top 10 rankings. Each tie will include men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and a mixed doubles match, with the top two teams advancing to the finals.
In the 2024 World Tennis League, teams will be ranked based on the number of ties won, with total games won used as a tiebreaker if necessary. An innovative ‘super shoot-out tiebreak’ will award two bonus points to teams, and in cases where two teams are tied in games won, these 10-point tiebreaks will provide an additional three points, adding an exciting strategic element to the competition.
The lineup for the 2024 World Tennis League features two Olympic gold medallists and five Grand Slam champions. Fourteen of the 16 players have previously participated in earlier editions, while newcomers include 2024 Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova and two-time Grand Slam runner-up Jasmine Paolini, adding fresh talent to the tournament.
The Eagles, featuring Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Mirra Andreeva, and Sofia Kenin, won the last championship by defeating Team Hawk in the final. Team Hawk included Iga Swiatek, Hubert Hurkacz, Caroline Garcia, and Casper Ruud, making for a competitive showdown.
