Carlos Alcaraz debuts in the Shanghai Masters with a sweeping win

Carlos Alcaraz continues his impressive run, easily advancing to the third round of the Shanghai Masters after defeating Juncheng Shang 6-2, 6-2. Just 48 hours after his victory over Jannik Sinner in Beijing, Alcaraz’s form remains dominant on the ATP circuit, showcasing his ability to perform at a high level consistently.

Alcaraz expressed gratitude for the extra day of rest, which allowed him to showcase his best performance against Juncheng Shang. His backhand was exceptional, mirroring his strong showing against Sinner, making it nearly impossible for his opponent to compete. When Alcaraz is in this form, he becomes a formidable challenge on the court.

Alcaraz secured his victory with a couple of breaks in each set, capitalizing on four of the seven break points he created. Despite Juncheng Shang’s strong serving, winning 78% of points on his first serve and 67% on his second, Alcaraz’s efficiency was unmatched, as he only allowed Shang to win 53% of points on his first serve and 41% on his second. This performance highlighted Alcaraz’s dominance throughout the match.

Alcaraz’s next opponent in the second round will be Chinese player Yibing Wu, who upset the favorite, Nicolás Jarry, in straight sets. Jarry has been struggling with his form and results recently, making this loss particularly tough for him. Given Alcaraz’s current form, he is expected to handle Wu without much difficulty and advance to the fourth round.
