Amanda Anisimova appears to make a rude gesture toward Mirra Andreeva following a heated controversy over a medical timeout at the Miami Open.
Amanda Anisimova subtly flashed a middle finger at Mirra Andreeva after defeating the Russian in the third round of the 2025 Miami Open. The gesture appeared to be a response to Andreeva’s accusation during the match, where she questioned Anisimova’s decision to take a medical timeout mid-game.
Anisimova and Andreeva faced off in the third round of the 2025 Miami Open on Sunday, March 23. Andreeva entered the match as the favorite, having secured consecutive WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells. However, Anisimova delivered an impressive performance, claiming a 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-3 victory and ending Andreeva’s 13-match winning streak.
The decisive third set saw controversy unfold when Andreeva was serving at 1-3 down. Midway through the fifth game, Anisimova requested a medical timeout (MTO) to treat a blister on the middle finger of her right hand. Andreeva, visibly frustrated, suspected that Anisimova was using the MTO as a tactical move to disrupt her momentum. Expressing her displeasure, she confronted the chair umpire.
“We all know why”
Following the match, Amanda Anisimova took a subtle jab at Mirra Andreeva through an Instagram post. In the photo, she discreetly extended her middle finger, making sure the blister was visible, and captioned it:
“We all know why” at 3-1 up was a good one coming from the 1-2 first set medical 😂😂🤣”

Anisimova’s caption took a sarcastic dig at Andreeva’s physio visits in the first set, during which the Russian teenager struggled with stomach pain and breathing issues. The American also pointed out how those interruptions disrupted the match’s rhythm.
“It broke the rhythm of the match” – Amanda Anisimova on Mirra Andreeva’s physio visits in the first set of the pair’s Miami Open 3R clash

After the match, Amanda Anisimova shared her thoughts on Mirra Andreeva’s multiple physio visits during the first set of their third-round clash at the 2025 Miami Open.
The American stated that the repeated stoppages disrupted the match’s flow, leading to a drop in quality and an increase in unforced errors from both players.
Then Anisimova said
“Of course it wasn’t ideal, I think it broke the rhythm of the match a little bit, because we had just started. I was trying to pick up my rhythm after that. I was happy with the way I was able to fight and stay focused,” Anisimova said.
Up next for Anisimova in Miami is a fourth-round clash against a resurgent Emma Raducanu, who made headlines by eliminating No. 8 seed Emma Navarro in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament.
